OWENSBORO, KY., Jennetha Byrd Wilson, 92, of Owensboro passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at her residence in Owensboro. She was born November 13, 1931 in Boligee, Alabama. Jennetha attended Parliament High School in Boligee, Alabama and accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Boligee, Alabama and moved to Owensboro in 1964. She was a faithful member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Owensboro until her health began to fail. Jennetha held positions on the Mother’s Board, Pastor’s Aid Committee, Senior Usher Board, Financial Committee and Baptismal Committee. She was employed by American Cigar Company, retired from Texas Gas and later worked for Tony Clark Realty. Jennetha was a dressing Diva accessorized by beautiful hats which she dearly loved. Her hobbies consisted of fishing, walking, cooking, singing, watching her soap operas, Steve Harvey (Family Feud), Westerns, talking in general to her kids, grand kids and being on Face Time via I Phone.
Loved ones preceding her in death was her former husband Nathaniel Wilson, Sr., parents Herman and Janie Byrd, 4 brothers Willie Byrd, Nedom Byrd, Herman Byrd, Jr. and Robert Lee Scott, sisters Mammie Gray, Lucinda Sims, and Mary Ann Coleman.
Mother Jennetha is survived by 2 sons Jacob Lee ( Sally) Byrd of Owensboro, Nathaniel (Mary ) Wilson, Jr of Providence, and a special son Jimmy C. Byrd of Owensboro, 3 daughters Janie (Roy) Tyler of Hopkinsville, Janet (David) Hall of Owensboro, and Lorraine Williams of Lexington, 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a special niece Romanda (Gary ) Maserang of Forest Hill, TX., a special nephew Willie “Doc” Byrd of Owensboro, a special cousin Sam Byrd of Owensboro, a host of nieces, nephews, care-giver Janet Valencia of Owensboro, and special friends Jackie Mays, Mary Mays, and Betty McCreary all of Owensboro, along with her Zion Church members and other numerous friends.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am-12:00 Noon at the church. The burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery 5050 KY-144 Owensboro, KY with Rev. Larry D. Lewis, Officiating.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2311 W. 9th St. Owensboro, KY.
